Codecasa Just Launched a 186-Foot Superyacht With a 5,000-Mile Range

Codecasa’s newest superyacht just made quite the splash off the coast of Italy.

The 186-footer, known as hull F81 throughout construction, but now christened Legacy 4, hit the water this morning during a private launching ceremony at the Codecasa Ugo Shipyards in Viareggio.

“The launch of the Legacy 4 is the result of the hard teamwork, expertise, passion, and dedication of the whole Codecasa Shipyards team,” the yard said in a statement.

Legacy 4 is poised to have quite the legacy as the first Codecasa 57 unit to hit the seas. Designed for global exploration, the yacht features a sturdy steel hull and a lightweight aluminum superstructure that together ensure strength and efficiency. Sleek lines run from the sharp, pointed bow to the cascading stern, giving the vessel that classic Codecasa feel. (The Italian yard has been designing luxury yachts since 1825 and has developed an elegant, timeless aesthetic.)

The yard has been tight-lipped about the project since work began in December 2023, but it has now announced that Tommaso Spadolini spearheaded the new build. The Italian designer is responsible for both the exterior and interior. Interestingly, Spadolini also designed the 184-foot Codecasa yacht, My Legacy. The names of these two vessels suggest they may belong to the same owner. My Legacy was commissioned and owned by an “experienced yachtsman,” though their identity was not publicly disclosed.

Details about Legacy 4 remain scant, but the accommodation comprises an owner’s suite, five guest cabins, a captain’s cabin, and six twin cabins for crew. An elevator will connect all the decks, providing easy access to the entertaining areas throughout. The large spaces allow for “privacy, happy moments of conviviality, and great comfort on board,” according to Codecasa.

Built to Lloyd’s Register classification, Legacy 4 is geared toward far-flung adventures. Equipped with twin 2,375 hp Caterpillar engines, the vessel is expected to reach a top speed of 17 knots at light displacement and has an estimated range of 5,000 nautical miles when traveling at 12 knots. That makes her a true transoceanic cruiser, capable of traveling from, say, New York to Greece or Florida to Turkey.

Codecasa didn’t say exactly when Legacy 4 would be delivered to her owner, but it will be sometime this year. The Italian yard has four yachts under construction, according to Boat International. The seventh unit of the smaller Codecasa 43 series is slated for delivery in spring 2028.
