The fastest civilian aircraft since the Concorde just got its first owner.
Bombardier delivered its inaugural Global 8000 private jet on Monday during an event at the brand’s Assembly Center in Ontario. It was there in Mississauga that Patrick Dovigi, a former Canadian hockey star turned businessman, snagged the keys to his new private jet, which will replace his current Global 7500.
Dovigi is getting quite the upgrade. In addition to the Global 8000’s need for speed (its ability to hit Mach 0.95 makes it the fastest private jet on the market), the new aircraft offers what Bombardier says is the lowest cabin altitude in biz jet production of just 2,691 feet at 41,000 feet. Because of that pressurization level, passengers will experience less stress on their bodies and get more oxygen while onboard, which can help to reduce that persnickety jet lag. Plus, Bombardier has worked to create a smaller, sleeker iteration of its Smooth Flex Wing, something that helps new jet land more efficiently. The Global 8000 also has a massive 8,000-nautical-mile range, which it showed off in a milestone announced back in July. That figure means the jet can dart nonstop to almost every city on the planet.
Inside, meanwhile, there is plenty of space to enjoy those long-haul journeys. The Global 8000 has four distinct living spaces onboard, as well as separate area for crew to unwind. Other significant features on the jet, which as the longest seat length in its class, include a Pur Air system that taps up the cabin air every 90 seconds and a Soleil circadian-rhythm system that adjusts light to reduce fatigue. The aircraft also has Nuage seating that is meant to provide “zero gravity” comfort, a.k.a. the ability the form to your body for decreased back pressure and improved circulation.
“Pride and excitement only begin to describe what the entry-into-service of the Global 8000 means for all 18,000 of us at Bombardier,” Éric Martel, Bombardier’s president and CEO, said in a press statement. “Every innovation and every detail of the Global 8000 reflects the hard work, creativity and dedication of our teams. This revolutionary aircraft is redefining the business aviation landscape with its innovative design, signature smooth ride, unmatched performance, and a promise fulfilled to our customers.”
The only question that remains: Where will Dovigi take his Global 8000 first?
