Bob’s Watches Is Opening a New Luxury Pre-Owned Watch Boutique at JFK

Talk about last-minute gifts. You’ll soon be able to snag a pre-owned Rolex before your plane takes off for the holidays.

Bob’s Watches is opening a new store inside New York’s J.F.K. Airport, the first time a luxury pre-owned watch retailer will be housed inside a major international airport. The boutique will make its debut on December 19 in Terminal 8—just in time to grab a last-minute gift while you’re traveling for the holidays.

Frequent fliers have long been able to buy a new watch at retail while bounding around the airport, but the Bob’s Watches boutique is the first foray they can into the pre-owned watch market while jet-setting. The new spot gives customers the chance to shop watches from the Crown and other major brands and make their purchases right then and there, whether you’re looking to mark a milestone or add a sought-after piece to their collection. Also, you’ll be able to buy the wrist candy duty-free, meaning that international shoppers may be able to save some money on their purchase. Of course, each timepiece is authenticated by Bob’s Watches in-house experts, too, undergoing a strict verification process.

“This location is designed around how people shop while traveling. The assortment is more curated and focuses on pieces that feel current and are in excellent condition,” the company’s COO Carol Alteri said in a press statement. “In an airport setting, customers value simplicity and confidence, so the experience is meant to be easy to navigate while still reflecting the standards the brand is known for.”

And now may be the moment to look into a pre-owned model. If you had purchased a pre-owned Submariner or GMT-Master II for $2,000 in 2010, it would be worth nearly $12,000 today, according to Bob’s Watches’ data-driven report on pre-owned Rolex sales. The study found that prices for Rollies on the secondary market increased by a whopping 550 percent over the last 15 years—more than real estate, the stock market, or anything else. So the best time to buy a pre-owned Rolex may have been yesterday, but the second-best time is now.

And though U.S. tariffs on Switzerland have rattled the watch industry, the company has continued to see strong desire for pieces on the secondary market. “Interest in watches remains strong overall,” Carol said in a statement. “We’re seeing healthy demand at every level, from longtime collectors to first-time buyers. The desire for immediate availability and transparency continues to resonate with customers and supports continued momentum in the pre-owned market.”
