You could soon experience the glitz, glamour, and grandeur of a Baz Luhrmann’s blockbuster from a train seat.
The acclaimed Australian filmmaker has teamed up with Oscar-winning costume and production designer Catherine Martin to create a dazzling new private dining and events carriage for the British Pullman. (American filmmaker Wes Anderson did the same thing back in 2021.)
Luhrmann and Martin have worked together on several films—Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, and Elvis, to name but a few—establishing a distinct theatrical style that never fails to impress on the big screen. (Martin has won no less than four Academy Awards, while Luhrmann has notched two Oscar nominations.) That signature more-is-more maximalism has been artfully incorporated into the historic British train.

Christened Celia, the whimsical carriage was inspired by a fictional muse from Luhrmann’s imagination but also pays homage to London’s 1930s West End theatre scene, vintage cinema, and Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The original 1932 carriage will be decked out with rich velvets, floral marquetry, and dramatic curtains, creating an opulent feel that is perfectly in keeping with the old-world luxury of the Pullman. A palette of deep greens, yellows, reds, and purples will also add a sense of intimacy throughout. (There are currently only illustrations of the carriage, but images will be shared in the spring.)

Celia can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests. It will operate as an entirely self-contained private carriage, with a cocktail bar, lounge, dining area, and entertainment space all located within. The clever multipurpose design means that it can host everything from fancy dinners and drinks to theatrical performances and dance parties.
Guests will also have dedicated stewards on hand, but can also choose to have a private chef whip up dishes throughout their journey. The bespoke menus will, of course, spotlight the finest seasonal produce from across Britain.

Launching in early summer, Celia can be booked on all British Pullman journeys. The train primarily departs from London Victoria Station, offering several day trips across the British countryside. You could visit the historic Georgian city of Bath or the architectural mecca that is Oxford, for example.
Prices for exclusive use of the Celia carriage start at £15,000 (about $20,500 at the current exchange rate), including transfers within Greater London. It might be time for a trip across the pond.
