An Indoor-Outdoor Malibu Home Hits the Market for $16.5 Million

While Malibu is synonymous with beachfront living, many inland estates capture the same relaxed lifestyle the coastal city is famous for—just with a slightly longer stroll or drive to the sand. These landlocked properties offer a kind of privacy not afforded cheek-by-jowl homes along the beach as well as gorgeous views that can take in the mountains and the ocean.

Epitomizing that ethos is the Sol Estate, an ultra-contemporary retreat tucked away in the tony Point Dume neighborhood. Full-height glass panels vanish into the walls, effectively transforming the entire home into a huge covered porch. Here, the year-round summer weather can be enjoyed from the ample poolside patio or the landscaped rooftop deck—pick your sunbathing perch.

The primary suite’s bathroom spills onto a private patio.

Designed by the architecture firm Minarc with interiors by MYMM, the home embraces a welcoming Scandi-chic aesthetic. European oak and natural stone are paired with walls of glass that blur the boundaries between inside and out. A fireplace wall divides the living room from the primary suite, the most luxurious of the estate’s six bedrooms, which includes a bathroom that leads out to a private patio where you can chill with your morning coffee. Elsewhere, a ground-floor office has its own entrance, keeping work completely separate from personal life.

The subterranean lower level is dedicated to rest and relaxation. You can sweat it out in the sauna or steam room after a workout in the gym. And, for days when you’re feeling like more of a couch potato, the home theater is outfitted with plush sofas that beckon you to lounge. All that’s missing is the popcorn and candy.

The 1.6-acre property has also made the most of its outdoor space, where an infinity-edge pool and spa runs the length of the exterior with panoramic views. After going for a dip, you can lay out beside the pool or take cover on the patio. The minimalistic outdoor kitchen is the perfect place to whip up a few snacks, which can be enjoyed at the dining table nearby. Up top, meanwhile, the landscaped roof offers even more lounge space, whether around the built-in bar or the gas fire pit. S’mores under the stars with the sound of the surf in the near distance, anyone?

The low-slung abode is listed for a hair under $16.5 million with Trevor Wright, Branden Williams, and Rayni Williams at the Beverly Hills Estates.
