AB Yachts has unleashed a 94-foot speed machine on the high seas. The Next Yacht Group brand just launched the first AB 95S, with the superyacht leaving the shipyard in Viareggio, Italy, to start initial sea trials. 

As you may have gathered from the name, the newcomer is the sport version of the AB 95 and thus comes with even more impressive performance specs. Designed for “owners seeking pure adrenaline,” according to the yard, the AB 95S can soar to over 53 knots in the “fast lap” configuration. To put that into perspective, the 93-foot Navetta 30, which fellow Italian yard Custom Line launched in 2020, has a top speed of just 15 knots. The AB 95, meanwhile, maxes out at a solid 50 knots. 

AB Yachts says the AB 95S is among the first yachts on the market to be equipped with MAN V12X-2200 engines, which collectively churn out a bonkers 6,600 hp. The vessel also has a remarkable power-to-weight ratio, with a displacement of approximately 100 tons. Key to that lightweight is the composite hull and deck, plus the extensive use of carbon fiber. The yard says the yacht offers excellent control and maneuverability even at higher speeds and is smooth, stable, safe, and efficient. 

Speed isn’t the only difference between the two AB 95s, though. The Sport version showcases a sleeker, more aggressive exterior, with sporty, aerodynamic lines and a wraparound windshield that is perfectly in keeping with the racing aesthetic. To top it off, quite literally, an opening roof has been integrated into the superstructure, creating both a low-slung profile and a breezy, open-air feel within. 

Adding to that sense of flow, the main deck is one big open space that connects to the sea. A large salon leads to the aft cockpit, where expansive glass affords both views and protection from the elements. Further aft lies a beach club with space for a tender of over 13 feet, a Jet Ski, and multiple inflatables. Down below, the lower deck houses all the accommodation, including a full-beam owner’s suite and three guest cabins that can together sleep up to eight guests. A separate crew area ensures guest privacy. 

The contemporary decor is in line with elegant Italian design, with a selection of refined materials and finishes throughout. The yard’s signature integrated bridge, for example, features insulated panels, leather, and suede, resulting in a stylish yet quiet environment. The high-tech helm station within, which was developed in collaboration with Fincantieri, combines ergonomics with advanced instrumentation to ensure precise, comfortable handling even at speeds in excess of 50 knots. 

Following sea trials, the inaugural unit will undergo final outfitting before delivery to her American owner in April.
