In Charleston, South Carolina, a historic yet chicly renovated home has just hit the market.
Known as the Corbett Irving House, the 4,500-square-foot Greek Revival residence dates back to 1837. Thankfully, it has been updated for the modern age with the help of local architect Eddie Fava and interior firm Lauren Sanchez Design. The two collaborated to turn the classic 189-year-old structure into a sleek, functional space with pops of pizzazz throughout. The $7.4 million listing is held by Mary Lou Wertz at Maison Real Estate.

Twelve-foot ceilings crown the main level, where you’ll find most of the entertaining spaces. A sculptural Workstead lighting fixture hangs over the fireplace-warmed living room, which connects to the formal dining room. The black-and-white kitchen is paired with a moody gray butler’s pantry, which also sports a groovy patterned ceiling. Family meals and morning coffee can be enjoyed in a glass-walled breakfast room that overlooks the back of the property. On this floor, there’s also a sage-green office and a powder room lined with mural wallpaper that makes you feel like you’re inside an ancient oil painting.
The upstairs is occupied by sleeping quarters: the primary suite and two additional bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. The primary includes a private study and a bathroom with a soaking tub and pale-pink double vanity. Past the tiled shower, a door opens to a private balcony with ample space for lounging in bathrobes.
Downstairs, on the ground level, a large brick-walled room serves as a casual secondary living area. There’s also a mudroom and a flexible space that can be set up as a gym or gardening room. The detached pool house adds another bedroom and bathroom for guests, plus a living area and covered porch seating.

Out back, there’s a stone-decked pool and a detached pool house where guests can stay.

Outside, the aptly named landscape architect Glen Gardner has created a resort-style layout in which multiple garden “rooms” have been partitioned out. Brick walkways lead to separate spaces for outdoor dining and lounging. At the center is the tranquil pool, with stone decking and sunbeds for basking in the daylight.
The Corbett Irving House isn’t the only historic Charleston home to have hit the market in recent months. Toward the end of last year, the 200-year-old Nathaniel Ingraham House showed up on the auction block with a listing price of $17.9 million. Bidding for that property closed at the end of January, and its sale is now pending. Best act fast if you want this one.
